BARTOSZYCE Bartoszyce is a town of 25 thousand people, located in the northern part of the Warmia-Masuria

Before the 13th century, the city area used to belong to one of the Prussian tribes – the Barts. In the 14th century the city was called Barsztyn and belonged to the State of the Teutonic Order.

The oldest monument of secular architecture and one of the few fragments of the Bartoszyce fortifications that has survived is The gate (Heilsberger Tor) represents the Gothic style and is built of characteristic red bricks.

After the World War I, Bartoszyce remained within the borders of the German country. After the World War II, the city and other areas were included in the territory of Poland.

Rich history of the city over the past centuries yielded a multi-cultural mosaics. The largest minority groups in the city are: former residents of the East Prussia, Ukrainians, population of the central and eastern Poland and the Second Polish Republic

Each of these groups brought in its own traditions and culture passed from generation to generation, which has preserved the peculiar nature of the city until today. Ukrainian minority German minority
