About Sinus Surgery Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is the common surgical method used to treat sinus infections, in order to restore normal functionality. Some patients have sinus surgery combined with other nasal procedures, such as septoplasty and turbinoplasty.

Indications Some of the indications that you may be a good candidate for sinus surgery are: Chronic sinusitis refractory to medical treatment Improve the airflow through the nose Pressure and pain in the face Pain behind the eyes Post nasal drip Nasal congestion Facial pressure and headache Infected nasal secretions

About the Procedure Most sinus surgeries are performed overnight with patients discharged the morning after surgery. The objective of this surgery is to open narrow or damaged passages for ensuring natural drainage and ventilation of the affected sinuses. An endoscope is inserted inside the nose, offering an inside view of the sinuses. The main objective of this surgery is to eliminate infection and to open up the paranasal sinuses for decreasing the frequency of infections. In case of an internal nasal deformity like enlarged turinates septal or turbinate surgery may be done along with sinus surgery.

Recovery Time After Surgery
It is a normal trend that a person feels stuffy in the nose for two weeks after the operation. Saline nasal washes are help in clearing the stuffy nose and for should be utilized regularly after the surgery.
