1
The Essence Of Faith Romans 10:9-12
2
The Acknowledgement Of Faith
Some are secret believers They believe, but do not confess (Jn. 12:42-43) Thus, it is not truly saving faith An open acknowledgement One will naturally confess what one believes. Notice the man who was born blind (Jn. 9:35-38) John wrote, “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God” (1 Jn. 4:15)
3
The further response of faith (unto salvation)
Manifest in obedience (Rom. 6:17-18) Other instances: Repent (Lk. 13:3, 5) Baptism (1 Peter 3:21)

A Sure Foundation Paul again quotes from OT (Septuagint)
“Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed’” (Isa. 28:16)
5
Descriptions of the foundation
A tried stone. Tested for quality A precious cornerstone. Refers to strength and reliability A sure foundation. Firm, fixed, stable
6
All of this refers to Jesus Christ
“For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 3:11) “Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe” (Heb. 12:28)
7
The Gospel Is For All Paul returns to the opportunity of salvation for all All have sinned (Rom. 3:23) All may be saved (Rom. 10:12) No difference in regard to salvation God does not have any partiality in this (Acts 10:334-35; Rom. 2:11) The gospel is for the salvation of souls (1 Peter 2:9; Gal. 3:26-29)
