Revising and editing homework is due Friday, March 24th! This is a formative grade!
Interested in some last minute EOC tutorials this week to work on either MC reading questions or the essay? Here’s the schedule:
Thursday = essay practice
The next book we read is going to be Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. You need to have this book by Monday, April 3rd.

2. STAAR Prompt Practice Is it better to work by yourself or in a group?
In Pat Frank’s Alas, Babylon, Dan Gunn was living on his own after the nuclear attack until his clinic was broken into and his co-worker was killed over medication and supplies. After that, Dan moved into Randy Bragg’s house for his own protection. It’s better to work with a group because there is safety in numbers.
The dangers of excessive pride.
In Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game,” Zaroff’s arrogance causes him to let Rainsford go on the first night of the hunt. Zaroff sees him in the tree hiding, and yet he walks away, which ultimately results in Rainsford defeating Zaroff at his own game. Overconfidence can often lead a person to poor decision-making.

3. From Worst to Best!!!
Select your worst essay from the past year (or one that you really feel like you could really improve on!)
Look back at where you went wrong. Did you have the T.E.A.L. structure in each paragraph? How strong were your examples? What could you do to improve?
Rewrite your essay on the provided paper. I expect to see BIG changes between the two!

5. Introductions and Conclusions
The Tie-in/ Similarity
Using purposeful diction that ties the intro and conclusion together
Using a metaphor to introduce the topic and then bring similar diction up again in the conclusion
Be careful with the length! Don’t add several sentences to your intro just for the metaphor.
Also, don’t be overly cheesy with your comparisons!

Purposeful use of semicolon and transition word/phrase
