2 Micro Enterprise Grant Program
Support. Fund. Grow. Small business is the lifeblood of Montgomery County. That’s why the Micro Enterprise Grant Program was developed to help small, for-profit companies in Montgomery County grow their business and fund investments through grants from $2,500 to $25,000.

3 Need for Grant Program Part of MCOFuture Initiatives
Increase funding commitment to small businesses Support small and emerging businesses Invest in them, buy from them Build a high speed wireless county for everyone Targeting economic development assistance Small businesses with limited access to capital

4 Eligibility Guidelines
Small business – under 5 employees Sales revenue under $500,000 Small and emerging businesses Established at least 12 months Store-front business only Not home-based or 2nd income County vendor registration required

5 Participant Emphasis Small, disadvantaged business - at least 51% owned by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged individuals Socially disadvantaged - historically subjected to racial or ethnic prejudice or cultural bias Economically disadvantaged - impaired access to financial opportunities

6 Targeted Sectors Retail Transportation Service Industry Childcare
Businesses owned by women, veterans and minorities

7 Grant Terms Funds awarded as a working capital equity grant
Business contribution – 10% cash equity or in-kind Business must be current on taxes For-profit businesses only Good credit history

Grant amounts from $2,500 - $25,000 State charter/incorporation, esp. related to sole proprietorship Business development services available Recoup funds based on business success Business must be willing to be a mentor

9 Ineligible Uses of Funds
HUD’s Regulations Cannot refinance personal or business debt Cannot use for political or religious beliefs Cannot be used for lobbying County Policy Cannot be used to assist bars, nightclubs, car dealerships

Classroom curriculum for 10 weeks (CAP training): Business Planning “Business of Business” Record Management Financing Continued outreach with businesses Business feedback survey Utilize BSC, Workforce, Project Hire

11 Program Partners Community Action Partnership Since 1964, the Community Action Partnership has provided opportunities for low-income individuals and families to lead more productive lives through advocacy efforts, education, job training, employment and the provision of affordable housing.

12 Program Partners Minority Business Assistance Center
MBAC provides management and technical assistance, procurement information, bonding assistance, cost estimating services and organizational assessments to minority-owned, women-owned and small disadvantaged businesses.
