Somalia NCDs background
In Somalia specifically, based on the scanty data available, the WHO NCD status report (2011) found that NCDs were estimated to contribute to 27% of the total deaths in the country by 2008

Where We Are Somalia is a fragile country globally. The country leads in all level mortality rates and is still highly dependant on aid to finance its budgets..

Over reliance on aid sometimes limits the flexibility budgetary allocations. Therefore, for the NCDs to be given utmost attention, the NCD Unit in the Ministry of Health needs to attract resources to finance it’s activities, from both national and international

NCD unit The NCD Unit was established in late staff and financing the department’s activities remains its biggest constraint. Once the funding is secured, the NCD treatment and control, prevention and health promotion and surveillance monitoring and evaluation would be assured.

Somalia way foward on NCDs
Develop and finalize strategy, plan and guidelines for NCD prevention and control Conduct an NCDs based survey in Somalia to establish the NCDs’ magnitude and range in the country

Way forward Development of NCD surveillance for the country
Work on cancer registry Resource mobilization and coordination with stakeholders

Finally these campaigns is about teaming up with all the key stakeholders, including governments, NGOs and the private sector, to create public-private partnerships in preventing and managing Non-communicable diseases
