16 Who decides?

17 MHSVCA – More VB for ALL **It’s hard to identify another HS Varsity sport that plays the same amount of innings, halves, or quarters as their sub-varsity 7/8th grade teams play** *Are we are currently limiting opportunities for kids? *3/5 would possibly allow for deeper/larger varsity rosters. *3/5 would reward more team balance, depth and all around skill. One dominate player is less likely to control the outcome. *3/5 Better identifies the best team with best mastery of skill.

18 JV & Freshmen Teams?? Silly AD’s
ONLY VARSITY CAN PLAY 3/5 (NFHS Rule) NO HALFTIME 5th Set = OT in Basketball (15pts) You can modify sub-varsity 3rd sets to 15pts

19 Too much time? 8 grade B TEAM vs. Varsity

20 3 / 5 DATA (How long???) About 63% done in 3 sets (58 min)
About 14% went 5 sets (110 min) Comparable to a girls Basketball game (going to a 5th set is like GBB overtime and still less time on average). Less time length than soccer and softball game averages.

21 Cost & Time (Best 3 out of 5)
Case Study – Suburban Conference Volleyball Officials Pay Grain Blue Springs South (JV 2/3 and Varsity 3/5) Suburban Conference Official Pay Scale - Volleyball JV & V (2/3 for Varsity)    $83        (6 maximum sets) JV & V (3/5 for Varsity)    $110      (8 maximum sets) We paid each official $110 before a set was even played. Outcome: *JV Won 2-0 & *Varsity Won 3-0 Only 5 total sets played (why were they paid more than $83?)

22 Cost & Time (Best 3 out of 5)
Case Study (Many Missouri Schools) THREE MATCH NIGHT (9th / JV / Varsity) BUT!!!!! (this is already what we’re paying for) 2/3 Varsity Match 3/5 Varsity Match 9 TOTAL SETS MAX 11 TOTAL SETS MAX Modify 3rd Sets (JV/9th) Varsity 5th Set is to 15pts APPROX. 9 ½ -10 SETS MAX Approx. 63% of Nights will end in 9 sets or less.

31 SURVEY Responses (2014 – 2016) Indoor Volleyball is the #1 girls team sport in the country passing girls Basketball. VB is #2 in overall participants behind only Track. Our MO future coaches and officials are all coming from a generation where Volleyball has become a country wide favorite. It’s hard to ignore what is being done in other states and the fact that many college athletes are moving into future coaching positions at the High School level. This might explain the growth in favorability towards best 3/5 being played at the state level.
