3 Phil. 4:11-13 11. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

4 Definition “the state of being happy and satisfied”
Contentment is a peaceful ease of mind. It’s being satisfied with what you have, whatever that is. Contentment is a calm and satisfied feeling; a freedom from murmuring and complaining.

5 Said the robin to the sparrow,
I would really like to know Why these anxious human beings Rush about and worry so. Said the sparrow to the robin, Friend, I think that it must be That they have no heavenly Father Such as cares for you and me.

6 The Realm of Contentment
It is not satisfaction It is not suppression of desire Learning to live with the changes of life without worry and anxiety.

Keep your hearts = “Guard” Think on these things True Honest Just Pure Lovely Good report “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Pro. 23:7a

8 1 Tim. 6:6-8 6. Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

9 1 Tim. 6:9-10 asv desire 9. “But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.” 10. “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

10 “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Heb. 13:5 “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” Acts 20:24

11 We must learn contentment

13 The Realm of Discontentment
Sinful to be contented with: Our sins Own Shortcomings Sufferings of others Ignorance of others

14 Church Cannot have contentment with:
Number of members Attendance at services Knowledge of God’s Word Interest in one another Giving

15 Contentment Prayer: “Lord, help us be content with the material and unimportant things, and help us be discontent with the spiritual and really important things.” Count our blessings Phil. 4:11 “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
