Earth is called the “water planet”. More water than land covers the earth’s surface. Salt water fills the oceans. Freshwater flows in rivers and lakes. Water freezes into ice and snow. It is found in air as clouds and fog. Water is all around us & its cover 70 percent of the earth’s surface.

Water or H2O, is a colourless, odourless, tasteless liquid having a melting point of 0ºC and a boiling point of 100ºC at standard atmospheric pressure. It can become ice (solid) and steam (Gas). Water is the most commonly found substance on earth and is present in many other substances.

Water is very important for life
Water is very important for life. We need water to drink, to wash our hands, to cook, to water plants and many other things.

Without water, the plants would die and people and animals would go thirsty.
