1 Welcome to Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) Information Night

2 What is HKN? Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) is the international honor society of the IEEE HKN was founded at the University of Illinois, Urbana- Champaign in 1904 by Maurice Carr Penn State’s Epsilon Chapter was shortly after on December 4, 1909 Merged with IEEE in 2010 to become IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu 240 chapters at universities across the world Over 300,000 members today Recognized around the globe as the one honor society that represents the highest values of our profession.

4 Who’s in HKN? Academic Qualifications: Top 25% of Juniors in EECS
Top 33% of Seniors in EECS Character: An individual must be of exceptional character demonstrating such character to their peers. Attitude: An individual must have the proper attitude to work hard, continually challenging himself/herself, willing to help others, and to use their talents and superior skills in service to their university, department and peers.

5 Why Join? IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN), the honor society of IEEE, is dedicated to encouraging and recognizing individual excellence in education and meritorious work, in professional practice, and in any of the areas within the IEEE-designated fields of interest. Employers around the world recognize the designation of HKN and understand that IEEE-HKN members are of the best candidates and are well-rounded, articulate, and community minded. Interact with your department’s faculty and major companies on a personal basis. Network with the top students at your school and other major universities. We assist our members through tutoring, exam preparation, peer mentoring, technical competitions, and to the community at large. We make sure that are members are prepared for the upcoming career fair come the fall/spring, by having as much company involvement as possible. We are here to make sure you are prepared! Have the resources to have an idea and bring it to fruition.

7 Getting Involved Getting involved in HKN: Corporate Involvement – Help in the planning and execution of events with recruiters Outreach Involvement – Plan events with AWC and IEEE to promote education in engineering Treasurer involvement – Work with the HUB to coordinate finances for the society Web involvement – Design and maintain our website, entirely re-written in HTML5 Tutoring – Tutor EE undergrads in core courses and help affirm your education along with others Our Activities: Tutoring Review Sessions Coffee Socials Tech Workshops Information Sessions Educational Videos
