Killing stubborn sin The Road Ahead
2
A Review from Last Week There are many excuses we make for sin. But sin is wanting things and believing things that are the opposite of God’s desires and truth. Sin is not caused by circumstances, but by our sinful hearts responding badly to difficult things. Jesus and His grace are so precious for us in the face of sin and are the only way for us to grow in righteousness. The grace of God is His willingness to forgive us when we don’t deserve it AND His presence and power to change us when we can’t do it.

What to expect The road of overcoming sin is not going to be a straight path from failure to perfection “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 Jn 2:1 However, we should expect to see change in our lives as Christ’s grace enables us to say no to sin and live more and more as He calls us to.

Love and hate “The difference between an unconverted and a converted man is not that one has sins and the other has none. But the one takes part with his cherished sins against a dreaded God and the other takes part with his reconciled God against his hated sins.” William Arnot “We make it our aim to please Him…For the love of Christ controls us (i.e. urges us, compels us)…that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” 2 Cor. 5:9,

Prepare for battle We should expect to dress for war and be a participant in the fight against our sin. “Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph 6:11 “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” Rom 13:14

Lifestyle of repentance
“When you take steps backward [toward your sin] you don’t have to end up where you started. How you respond to failure is as important as knowing the next step forward. The key is to get to Jesus Christ as quickly as possible.” Ed Welch

Lifestyle of repentance
Repentance looks like confessing our sin to God. It is essential that we take full responsibility for our sin and acknowledge that our sin was rejecting Him for what we wanted or believed. Repentance means turning away from sin and back to Christ Repentance is what we do next – it’s the action of turning our lives around, looking at Jesus, and living differently

Lifestyle of repentance
Repentance involves believing that God forgives you immediately because of Christ. Repentance is a way to glorify God in our lives. When we confess sin and turn back to God, we are saying that God is better than sin and that glorifies Him. Embracing Him again in faith as a great Savior glorifies Him. Confessing sin to others.
