Aim: What is Jesus’ mission and role?
I. Mission A. Christ is the Greek word for “anointed one” same as Hebrew word Messiah B. To proclaim and make present the reign of God C. Kingdom of God is not a place, it is the rule of God over our hearts

Role A. Prophet hears God’s Word and proclaims the Good News B. Priest represents the people in offering sacrifice to God as He did on the cross C. King is a man who rules in God’s name

Messiah’s Test 1. Jesus prayed and fasted for 40 days to prepare for his mission 3/1 2nd period Jesus overcame Satan and refused to compromise with evil. Temptations are people, circumstances and things that entice us to do what is wrong or omit doing what is good Sin is choosing to do what is wrong or to omit what is good i. venial sin weaken our relationship with God ii. Mortal breaks our relationship with God

After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened (for him), and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove (and) coming upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.“ Matt 3:16-17 On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him.
