Header Type here! The Kindergarten Weekly News 9/24/17-9/28/17 This Week’s Themes The question of the week is…How do Machines Help People Work? We are also continuing our apple activities over the next few weeks. Reading and Literature Story: Dig, Dig Digging Comprehension: Classifying and categorizing Amazing Words: scooping, squelching, swooshing, gobbling, rumbling Sight Words: to, a Phonological Awareness: Syllables, Onset and rime, initial sounds, blending sounds and Words in a Sentence Conventions: Nouns for places and things Genre: Concept Book Letters: P, B, R, N, M Decodable Book: Themed Activities: Apple Book, Caterpillar Counting to 6, how to draw an apple dictation, and making homemade apple sauce in crockpot. Math This weeks Essential Question in Math: Can you represent any given number more than one way? Objectives: Compare counts of 9 and 10 in linear and array configurations, match number 9 and 10; Write numbers 9 9 and 10. We are sending home a packet of handouts we passed out at our math night last week. If you have any questions about any of the handouts please contact us!, Writing and Handwriting This week we in our Handwriting Without Tears program we will be learning how to write the letters P, B, R, N, M and continue practicing using the following verbiage when describing how to write/form the letters and numbers and they are all formed by using the following 4 Phrases: Big Line, Little Line, Small Curve, Big Curve. Please have your child complete the practice handwriting sheets that were sent home today in your child’s folder.

Important Dates to Remember
Field Trip Mark your calendar’s for Friday, October 27th if you would like to be a chaperone for our field trip to Tolmachoff Farms. You will need to complete the volunteer training before this date if you are planning to join us. We have a volunteer training scheduled at Mirage on Thursday, October 12 at 5:00pm . If this time and date does not then please contact the office to find out when other dates and times are available throughout the district. Sight Word Necklaces Please have your child bring their sight word necklace back once they know all the words fluently. We will test them on their words and if they read them correctly we will give them the next group of words to learn. If you have any questions about this please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. Important Dates to Remember September 27th- Picture Day October 6th - Half Day October 16th-20th-Parent Teacher Conference week October 19th and 20th-Half Days November 3rd-Half Day November 20th-24th- Thanksgiving Break Donation Station Each week for the next 3 weeks we will be making one of the following: Apple Smiles, Apple Sauce and Apple Pies Thank You! We are still in need of Apples. We will also need Apple pie filling and the roll out pre made pie crust. We will appreciate any donations you can send in. Thank You
