“Smart” contents development
Power Meter SW Investigation and feasibility: done APP analysis and SW architecture: closed APP development: closed APP bug fix: closed The Appliance Power Profile (APP) is a data structure aiming to give an estimation of the power footprint of the smart appliance’s cycle over time as well as an estimation of the relevant energy consumption. The energy estimation is computed considering the mean power consumption of each power phase (a calibration of the electric loads of the Dishwasher is performed in the plant). An high approximation naturally arises in giving an estimation of power footprint of a cycle “a priori” (i.e. in programming mode, before starting the cycle), being the cycle effectively performed influenced by several unpredictable factors. Moreover the APP is described by means of a prefixed structure that, even if endowed with some flexibility in adapting to the real cycle, cannot completely cope with the high variable dynamics of the cycles and relevant conditions defined by the environment as well as by the user settings. 1-3 September 2014 INERTIA 7th Project Review

Starter Kit Now available for starting the integrating of the smart dishwasher into the Inertia SW/HW framework. Some Start Up Problems encountered during the set-up: Back Up solution: connectivity via ZNM Web Access By this 12V powered kit, it is not possible to see a power consumption higher than 3W (complete DW is needed) 1-3 September 2014 INERTIA 7th Project Review

ZNM Web Access ZNM introduces some restrictions:
-Water Consumption Calculation -Remote Control & Monitoring -Delay Start Management It is instead useful for testing: -Energy Monitoring -Power Profile and scheduling -Overload management -Cycle cost extimation 1-3 September 2014 INERTIA 7th Project Review

Energy consumption The RF channel will send to the gateway the energy the machine has used since the first time it has been switched ON; To compute the energy used in a cycle, the energy counter is decremented of the value it had at its start. This value is continuously updated The firmware updates the value basing on the instant power and the time 1-3 September 2014 INERTIA 7th Project Review

Power Profile & scheduling
On every cycle selection, the RF module sends to the gateway the Power Profile for the selected cycle; basing on these data, the energy manager (ZNM into Indesit environment) returns an extimation of There’s also the possibility to ask for the cheapest or the “greenest” cycle start time the cycle duration the cycle cost 1-3 September 2014 INERTIA 7th Project Review

Overload management The dishwasher firmwares have embedded a level-based overload warnings: they activate themselves basing on a threshold that depends on the user’s house power service (i.e. Italy basics -> 2700 W, 3000 W) Warning Overload This message stays on till a reset message is received by the node All the keys are locked Buzzer beeps while the message is on Risk of overload This messages stays on for few seconds UI Keys are unlocked 1-3 September 2014 INERTIA 7th Project Review

Cost estimation When selecting a cycle, the node sends the power profile to the energy manager, and receives back the cost estimation. Indesit used their ZNM program to test this functionality by simulating the energy hourly cost profile into a XML file. So, the returned cost depends: on the cycle type (used loads, energy consumption, time duration) on the starting time (hourly cost change all over time) on the user’s contraints (cheapest/greenest cycle, use of tabs, “end within”,…) 1-3 September 2014 INERTIA 7th Project Review

Software bugs under fix
Cheapest/ Greenest cycle automatic scheduling – works when the time is forced via zigbee, but the node does not send an automatic request for it when the user selects one of these special schedules. Power meter : power extimation not precise when activating the washing resistor Fix forecast : W36/2014 Fixed W35/2014 Under debug 1-3 September 2014 INERTIA 7th Project Review
