Leadership Program History
Traditional Leadership Events at UT Arlington Fall Leadership Retreat (1980) Recognition Ceremony (1983) Academic Courses EDUC 2330 (started as Pass/Fail course in 1985) Peer Leadership Trainers teaching EDUC 1130 (1992) Leadership Center Name Change/Director Search – 2007 Began Leadership Minor/Certificate Program in Fall 2011 First student completed program in Fall 2012 Currently have 16 students enrolled in Minor/Certificate Program

Student Involvement Statistics
Total of 644 participants in the fall 2012 programs of the Leadership Center. 80% are full-time students, 19% are part-time enrolled. Average age is 21. Average GPA is Minimum of 2.5 to hold a leadership position in our programs. UNKNOWN 4.8% GRAD 4.7% FRESHMAN 18.6% SENIOR 25.0% SOPHOMORE 19.4% JUNIOR 27.5%

Leadership Minor and Certificate
Leadership Studies Minor – 18 hours Leadership Studies Certificate – 15 hours Required courses (9-hours) include: EDAD 2330 (Advanced Theories of Leadership) EDAD 4330 (Capstone in Leadership Studies) Field Experience/Service Learning Course Elective courses (6-9 hours)include: Global Issues Ethics At least 3 hours must be from upper-division courses Advising is shared between Leadership Center Director, Kerri Ressl, and ELPS Advisor, Paige Corder.

Leadership Courses Foundations allows students to learn about themselves and their leadership styles, basic leadership topics such as ethical leadership, diversity, emotional intelligent leadership, etc. Textbook Curriculum: Introduction to Leadership By Peter Northouse (Pictured Right) EDAD 1130 – Foundations of Leadership (1-hour, P/F) General Open Section Fraternity and Sorority Life Focus Apartment and Residence Life Focus New Maverick Orientation Focus

Leadership Courses EDAD 2330 – Advanced Theories of Leadership (3-hour) Instructors: Kerri Ressl/Ricardo Lopez Textbook Curriculum: Leadership Theory and Practice By Peter Northouse Focused on teaching leadership theory and relating it to practice, develop advanced leaders’ skillset in working with others, personal growth development through experiential learning, etc. Includes service-learning component.

Leadership Courses EDAD 4330 – Capstone in Leadership Studies
Instructor: Kerri Ressl The capstone course focuses on the synthesis of learning and experiences across the prior 15 hours of coursework for the Leadership Minor/Certificate. Students will design and present their new understandings of leadership, analyze their core competencies and work on a personal leadership development growth project.
