Race Categories Racial categories generally follow this pattern in Ohio: Black or African American, Asian, Some other race, American Indian and Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander Nationally, according to Census 2000, Hispanics outnumber Blacks/African American by less than 1.0% but the growth rate for Hispanics from 1990 to 2000 was 57.9%. The majority of Hispanics reside in California and Texas but the Midwest is experiencing an increase largely in small,rural communities
