New capability for Australia’s maritime forces include: 12 regionally superior submarines to replace Australia’s existing fleet of 6 Collins Class (SEA 1000 – awarded to DCNS France in 2016); 9 frigates optimised for anti-submarine warfare to replace Australia’s existing frigates (SEA 5000 – Request for Tender expected shortly); 12 offshore patrol vessels (SEA 1180 – Tenders close shortly); and modernised mine countermeasures and new military and commercial hydrographic survey capabilities; Well over $AU 100 B (≈ 73 B Euro) Australian content vital on all three programs

A strong, viable, and sustainable Australian naval shipbuilding industry is a vital element of Australia’s defence capability. A long-term continuous build of surface warships in Australia commencing in 2018. SEA 1180: from 2018 – 12 OPV SEA 5000: from 2020 – 9 ASW Frigates $AU 34 B Acquisition (Sustainment not included) Transformation of Australia’s naval shipbuilding industry to: generate significant economic growth, Focus on Australian content – CDIC coordinating sustain Australian jobs over the coming decades; and assure the long-term future of this key Australian defence industry Long-term Government commitment and strategy.

Australian Industry Capability Development
Remove inefficient and ineffective regulation. Engaging with Industry through CDIC and Innovation Hub. $1.6 billion to develop industry through projects. Government seeks to reinvigorate the manufacturing sector through the defence programs. Great opportunities for both acquisition and sustainment contracts. Opportunity for non-Australian companies to partner with Australian companies and transfer knowledge to support the Government plans. These programs are also intending to allow Australian companies to export their products in the future.

Summary There are excellent business opportunities at least over the next 20 years in Australia's Defence maritime space.
