Tracy Walker is the State & Federal Programs Coordinator for Cornerstone Education Group. Tracy works with all state and federal grant funding and program evaluation for the schools, as well as using data to inform instruction and guide programming for staff and students across the network. Nichole Husa is the Personalized Learning Officer for Cornerstone Education Group. Nichole designs and manages systems for the implementation of Personalized Learning across Cornerstone's network of schools, with a specific focus on building the capacity of teachers and leaders in order to ensure every child has an individualized learning experience. Developing Teachers Along a Continuum
The Path to Personalization Exploring Applying Innovating Planning for the Blended Classroom Procedures are in place to ensure a safe environment. Students know how to handle equipment and access appropriate sites. Student activities are aligned to standards. Student activities are planned with DOK in mind. Students have choice in how they learn and practice. Student data is utilized to ensure differentiation. Students design their own activities with guidance. Students have an individualized path towards mastery. Critical Thinking and Engagement Student work is developmentally appropriate. Students are on-task. Student work is relevant and fosters personal connections. Students can articulate the purpose for their work. Student work is project-based and fosters problem-solving. Students are able to participate in the design process. Interactions Teacher interacts with students as needed. Students work alone or are assigned partners/groups. The LEAP Framework for PL (abbreviated)
Strategy Learner Focused Review available information regarding learners’ prior academic performance (e.g., testing, work samples, portfolios) Partner with learners to explore: ways to modify or vary content, the where/when of learning and other aspects of their learning experiences to align with their interests, strengths and needs Offer flexible modalities, groupings and times/places for learning to help meet individual learner needs, strengths and interests; balance individual needs with the needs of the class community Learner Demonstrated Partner with learners to identify the most suitable learning format for their current academic level (e.g., class, groupings, activities, software) Use formative assessment data to help determine appropriate pacing and instructional support Provide learners with access to multiple assessment options Partner with learners to select the content, product or process they will use to demonstrate proficiency, as well as devise the methods that will be used to show evidence of their learning Learner Led Refrain from immediately offering support and solutions when learners begin to struggle, and encourage learners to seek help from peers, technology and other sources to answer questions and resolve problems with their own resources (HELP Protocol) Discuss assessments with learners and guide them to identify a set of learning goals that are achievable, measurable and meaningful to them Position teacher role based on the learning needs of learners (e.g., director, facilitator, mentor) Nichole
