2. What is Brainstorming?
Brainstorming is a group creativity technique by which efforts are made to find a conclusion for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas spontaneously contributed by its members. The term was popularized by Alex Faickney Osborn in the book Applied Imagination.

3. STEP 1: Prepare the Group
Clear your mind
Each group (Red, Gold, Purple & Green) needs to assemble together
Everyone will receive Post-It notes
Write individual ideas on your Post-It notes
(Go for Quantity and not Quality- a bad idea is the lack of ideas)

4. Step 2: Present the problem
Your group needs to create a 50 minute workshop presentation for students on your campus
You need to brainstorm ideas on topics that would interest students
Think of wild and creative ideas. No idea is dumb or stupid!

6. STEP 3: Guide the discussion
Time is up for writing down ideas, your facilitator will now guide you in assembling your ideas
No criticism of anyone’s ideas
Individually, share the ideas you wrote down with other members of your group
Put similar ideas together – Remember 2 wrongs can make a right & putting ideas next to each other can evolve into something incredible

7. Examples of similar ideas:
Student Support Services/ Financial Aid/Counseling/Admissions
Diversity/ Multicultural/ LBGTQ/ Special Populations
Student Activities/ Clubs/SGA/ PBL/PTK
Recycling/Sustainable Energy/ Going Green
Food Insecurity/Food Pantry/ Hunger

8. Step 4: Take action! Each group member will vote on an idea
Each member has a total of 5 votes and may use up to a maximum of 3 votes on one idea. When you have used all of your votes, you are done voting.
If you do not like an idea, DO NOT Vote on it!
Be sure to record the total number of votes for an idea on the Post-It note.

9. Next Steps:
Select someone from your group to come to the front of the classroom and write the Top 3 ideas/topics your group selected on the white board
During & after dinner, meet again to discuss your Top Choice. Fine tune it and get it to where the group feels good about it as a 50 minute presentation

10. finally….
Once you have finalized your presentation topic, give it to JJ by wrap up tonight (10 p.m.)
Next, determine the objective of your presentation and select 2-3 learning outcomes on how you will achieve the objective (Due at 8:30 p.m. on Monday)
Prepare a budget using the $100 allocated to your group (Due on Monday at 8:30 p.m.)

11. What is next?
Once your topic, objective, learning outcomes, and budget are approved by JJ, you will begin working together on your group project
A brief (15 minute) snapshot of your entire 50 minute presentation will be presented to the SLDP class on Friday morning
