8 A READING – from Peter Drucker’s An Introductory View of Management
TRUE/FALSE The work of a manager is mainly about planning and organizing. It is not a manager’s job to allocate human, physical and capital resources available to them. Managers organize the work into manageable activities, and decide who will do individual jobs. Managers have to be excellent at communicating their objectives to the staff and motivating them. Managers are not responsible for salaries and promotion.

9 Managers do not necessarily have to supervise every single step of their subordinates.
Their subordinates are, however, accountable for their performance to the Board of Directors. Managers have to make sure that the objectives and targets are achieved. A top manager whose performance is unsatisfactory can be dismissed by the President, who reports to the shareholders. Managers do not deal with the company’s customers, suppliers, distributors, bankers, investors, public authorities, and so on. The best managers are authoritarian and conservative, and therefore not likely to be in favour of expensive innovations. Innovations can be risky and a source of major crises.
