Mission of FFVP Mission~ A pilot was completed to determine the best practices for increasing fruit (fresh and dried) and fresh vegetables consumption in schools. *The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 added four more states, 10 schools in South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Reservation, and 8 Schools in Arizona’s Tribal council.

Targets elementary schools. Improve children's overall diet. Help schools create a more healthy environment. Increases children's fruit and vegetable consumption. Helps fight childhood obesity by providing healthier food choices.

Mission of CACFP Mission~ The CACFP provides aid to children and adult care institutions by supplying nutritious foods that contribute to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of young children. They also supply nutritious foods that aid adults and chronically impaired disabled persons.

Some CACFP Facts The CACFP help improve the quality day care and makes living affordable for low-income families Provides 3.3 million children and 120,000 adults with nutritious meals and snacks daily Administered to States through grants given by Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Independent centers and sponsors are reimbursed for providing meals to enrolled children/adults that meet Federal nutritional guidelines

What We Learned FFVP CACFP
Provides provides webcasts, templates, presentations, and resources to help schools build a successful program The program requirements are that the elementary schools have to submit the total number of enrolled students and the percentage eligable for free/reduced price meals, a certification of support for participation in the FFVP and a program implementation plan CACFP The program is found at at-risk afterschool care centers, adult day care centers, child care centers, day care homes and emergency centers. USDA provides guidance, resources, best practices and training for CACFP centers and day care homes.
