Joint Shapes Mortar joints are shaped while mortar is still soft. Clean and neat mortar joints can make or break a good job. Tags: Mortar that is squeezed out while shaping the joint. Brush or scrape away. Pock marks: Voids in the face of the mortar joints. Fill and smooth. Even: Mortar joints need to be even in depth. No waving.
