Facts, Food, Fun, & Festivals

2 Extended Common Task You will:
Randomly choose a Spanish speaking country. Conduct research to obtain required information. Develop an outline or note cards to organize your research. Write a three to five (2-3) page typed paper which includes required information. Use appropriate parenthetical documentation within the body of the paper. (MLA style) Include a properly formatted Works Cited Page. Include a flag and map of the country at the end of the paper and as a visual during your presentation.

3 Required Information Facts
Basic geographical features of region -Location -Important bodies of water-rivers, lakes -Mountains -Deserts -Climate -Vegetation -Monetary Unit and Current rate of exchange Population -Ethnic Groups -Language /Dialect spoken -Immigration Trends

4 Fun Identify at least three (3) -Important cities -Monuments -Museums
-Other tourist attractions in the region and -Explain their significance or importance

5 Food Identify at least three (3) Explain how they are used in this
-Agricultural products available or produced in the country Explain how they are used in this country or for export Identify and explain a dish/recipe that the area is known for -For example: Spain is known for tapas like tortilla espanola. Tortilla espanola is an egg, onion and potato omelet that is served as an appetizer or finger food in most bars and restaurants.

6 Festivals & Important Calendar Dates
Identify at least three (3) -Important dates of events/holidays/traditions associated with the country being researched and -An explanation of the event /holiday/tradition, how it is celebrated and why.

7 Appendix At the end of your paper you must include:
A written reflection (PBGR 1.06) which answers the question, After researching your assigned country, would you visit? Would you reside there? Why or why not? What aspects of the country appeal to you and why? A flag of your region Map of your region

8 Report Requirements 2-3 Pages in length, not including Appendix,
Works Cited Page or Cover Page Typed and double spaced Font must be Times New Roman or Ariel MLA style for internal, parenthetical documentation and Works Cited Page Minimum of 3 Sources Required If using three sources only one can be an internet source, 2 must be print sources Wikipedia is NOT an acceptable source Note Cards or Outline required (PBGR 1.09)

9 Format Requirements for Paper
Title Page 2” Margins on all sides Center the entire page. Divide information into 3 parts: title of paper, student’s name, course information and date. Be sure to space these parts evenly down the page. Use capital and lowercase letters appropriately. Do not use quotation marks around the title or underline the title. Do not use a colon (: ) after by.

11 Text Use double spacing for the entire text, including works cited page Use basic one-inch margins on all sides Number the pages consecutively throughout the text using Arabic (1,2,3,etc.) numbers. The Works Cited page is numbered consecutively with the text. Do not number the Title Page. Be sure your paper is error free. Use the tools on your computer to help you in the editing process. Use standard English. Use complete sentences/avoid fragments and run-on sentences. Use correct spelling. Adhere to the standard rules of grammar and usage. Adhere to the standard rules of punctuation and capitalization.

12 Provide appropriate parenthetical documentation for all cited sources
Provide appropriate parenthetical documentation for all cited sources. (This will be explained in class) Your introduction and your conclusion should be clear. Your introduction should interest the reader and grab his/her attention. Your conclusion should restate the controlling idea or main theme of your paper and bring closure to it. Works Cited Page Double space this page just like the text. Center and type the title Works Cited and then hit return once and begin entries. Type the first lines flush with the margin. Subsequent lines of the entry are indented five (5) spaces. Entries are listed alphabetically. (Follow the examples you will be given in class.)

You will be graded using the following rubrics: Learner Outcome 1.03 Learner Outcome 1.06 Learner Outcome 1.09 GSE W 10-7 We will be reviewing these rubrics together in class. You will also be receiving a test grade for your paper based on a rubric that I will be distributing to you in class.
