3 THE KEY FEATURES OF GRAPHIC NOVELS ARE…

4 PANELS Panels - Usually rectangles that the images within Graphic Novels are drawn in. Panels size can vary to emphasize the importance of the frame, or to focus the readers gaze on an event.

5 Show me: Draw me a 4 panel comic (using stick figures) make one panel (the most important one) larger.

6 SPEECH AND THOUGHT BUBBLES
The speech and thought bubbles are used to assign ownership to internal or external dialogue.

7 Show me: Create a one frame comic that has your character saying one thing, whilst thinking something totally different.

8 MOTION LINES Motion Lines are used to portray an objects movement.

9 Show me: Draw one long frame with an object that is moving
Show me: Draw one long frame with an object that is moving. Use motion lines to let us know the movement is happening.

10 CAPTIONS Captions are used to convey information that is not able to be conveyed through art or speech.

11 Show me: Draw a quick 3 frame comic using at least 2 captions to tell us something that you can’t tell us through dialogue or drawing.

12 SOUND EFFECTS Sound effects are usually represented without bubbles and are drawn in bold or 3D and always in uppercase

13 Show me: Draw a one frame comic using sound effects.
