Behold your mother.” Woman The relationship has changed; no longer a mother to a son, but a disciple to her Lord.

Behold your mother.” Woman , behold your son. A new relationship - as Jesus’ disciple, Mary now has a new relationship with John.

A new relationship - as Jesus’ disciple, John now has a new relationship with Mary. Mary is not John’s mother.

Sayings From The Cross A new community that transcends
“Woman, behold your son... Behold your mother.” Jesus is calling people into a new relationship with Him and with one another. What is the point? Jesus is setting aside the blood relationship between human beings to form a much wider family made up of disciples. A new community that transcends all of the natural physical ties of human beings.

✓ His second words are for those who had been His enemies, but have repented and turned to Him. ✓ His third words are for those who have come to Him and have become His disciples.
