A RARE COMBINATION OF LICHEN PLANUS IN HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS INFECTION PREET SHAH , R. P. RAM Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai With these classical findings,a diagnosis of Lichen Planus was made.He was started on Clobetasol cream for skin lesions and anti-histaminics for symptomatic relief. Conclusion: This is a rare case, since there have only been few case reports of LP being seen in HIV patients, and no specific prevalence has been mentioned. Introduction: Lichen Planus(LP) is a cell-mediated immune response of unknown origin. It may be found with ulcerative colitis, vitiligo, dermatomyositis, myasthenia gravis, Hepatitis-C and Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. Drugs like Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), beta-blockers, methyldopa, penicillamine, quinidine, have also been implicated. LP usually presents between years of age. In the general Indian population, prevalence of skin LP is 0.9–1.2% and prevalence of oral LP is reported between 0.1% and 2.2%. Reference: Ghom AG. Oral Premalignant lesions and conditions.
