Monitor students’ progress toward completing their program plan
Intervene when students are at-risk of falling of their program plan and get them back on track

7. College Engagement Study Circle Mentor Circle
Three-year effort focused on guided pathways and advising redesign
Two learning communities — Study Circle and Mentor Circle — with different levels of commitment and support

Mentor Circle
Our next big effort related to guided pathways will focus on advising redesign. We are starting a three-year focus on this aspect of guided pathways.
We’d like to give colleges multiple ways to approach this work, with different expectations and levels of participation. So we are introducing a new technical assistance model that is structured around two learning communities — the Study Circle and the Mentor Circle. We hope this approach will give everyone a way to engage with this critical work.
We’ll walk through the details now. Over the next [hour/days/weeks] we’ll ask you to choose the Circle that is the best fit for your college.

8. College Engagement Study Circle Support from MCSS

MCSS signature events (Student Success Summit, Michigan Student Success Network, and Regional Faculty Conversations)
Live and on-demand webinars
Expanded online resources
On-demand virtual conferencing from MCSS staff and college peers

9. College Engagement Mentor Circle Support from MCSS
Commitment from Participating Colleges
Access to all resources available to Study Circle colleges
Two in-person Institutes per year with support from national experts and opportunities for data analysis
Support from MCSS staff for intensive work on advising redesign and student support
Attend two in-person Institutes per year (6 total)
Lead(s) attend an annual meeting in June/July
Collect qualitative and quantitative data related to guided pathways and advising redesign annually
Provide support to other Michigan colleges through presentations and consultations
Share data with MCSS and JFF (per agreement TBD)

11. Application Process
All MCCA colleges can participate regardless of previous status with MI-GPI Prospective Study or Mentor Circle should submit a letter of intent signed by the college president by November 1, a) identify at least one Guided Pathways Team Lead and describe the support the college will provide the lead(s) b) address the narrative questions in Section I of the application c) address the narrative questions in Sections II-IV (only colleges interested in Mentor Circle)
We hope you will take a moment to learn about and consider the Mentor Circle. This is how we will select colleges for this learning community.

12. Connection to Statewide Transfer Initiatives
Michigan Transfer Network Replacement
Colleges will provide input on a redesigned Michigan Transfer Network site and will provide updated data to the MTN
Multi-institution associate to bachelor’s degree transfer pathways
Building on program mapping work, faculty will be invited to participate in statewide convenings to build multi-institution associate to bachelor’s degree transfer pathways so that students can begin at a community college and transfer to any participating university. Kick-off in early 2018 with Biological Sciences, Business Management, Criminal Justice, and Psychology

Better understand the needs of low-income students, leverage external partnerships to deliver support, connect to public benefits and develop resources for “just in time” assistance
Ensuring Student Learning in Guided Pathways
Align and assess curricular and co-curricular learning outcomes in selected programs to increase coherence and strengthen transfer pathways between community colleges and universities
