FWRWG Started early 2014 – meet 3/4 times per year
Focus on sharing information and gathering research. Main focus: municipal level (residents) 16 members – Municipal/regional Solid Waste Mgt reps. consultants & interested parties Chair,Hélène St.Jacques & Secretary, Janet Robins New members always welcome!

Vision: Minimize edible food waste.
DRAFT Mission: Work to eliminate edible food waste by the following actions: Establish incremental targets and goals Increase public awareness about the source/origins of food and how it gets to the consumer. Identify barriers, concerns and opportunities associated with food waste generation and reduction behaviour Identify where along the food chain municipal staff can influence behaviours. Establish criteria for 'state of the art' edible food waste audit collection and measurement procedures (including establishing food waste categories, guidelines in identifying edible and non edible food waste, etc). Establish standardized approach to monitor and measure food waste reduction at the municipal level. Work with other entities to develop standard metrics around food waste reduction and diversion.

Local, national & international scope Includes all waste generating sectors from ‘field to table’ Discuss new food reduction campaigns and proposals (FCM tax incentive) Guest speakers/presenters New/Pending Collect, share counterproductive measures i.e. garburaters

Food Waste Cost Impacts:
Toronto cost collection & composting green bin’s 100,663 tonnes of household organics approx. cost $28,000,000 (2012) pa. Average family (2.1) throwing out $28 of eatable food –(total food budget of $140) or $1,560pa. Imagine cost benefits of 10 – 25% reduction… Plus environmental benefits….
