Timeline and Process Timeline: 3 days Process
Students will work in pairs and come up with a question that they want to ask another first grader. For example, What is your favorite pet? They will then decide on 3 categories. For example, cat, dog, and fish. There will be an “other” category too. Students will complete their worksheet together as they plan their question. The next day, students will ask other first graders their survey questions and record their results using tally marks. After asking 15 other students, they will add up their tallies and record the number of responses for each category. Lastly, partners will create a bar graph based on the data they collected. They will be able interpret the data with their partner and answer questions about their graph.

Excel with 1st graders I will pick one group’s question and ask the class for their answers. Using excel, I will add their data to the sheet and show them a graph that represents their data. Students will be asked to compare the results and discuss their observations. Extension- I would also ask the students, “How might this data change?” “What if we asked 2nd graders what their favorite ice cream flavor is?” I would change the number values in the excel spreadsheet to show the students how the graph changes.

Evaluation Students will be evaluated on their graph using a rubric.
