What does this tell us about the relationship between wisdom and being a person who is “mature and complete?” (James 1:4-5) The word connecting verses 4 and 5 is “lack” or “lacking.” The result of perseverance in the life of a believer is to be “mature and complete, lacking nothing.” James says in verse 5 that if we lack wisdom, we should ask God for it.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
