2. The Top 100 Movies Project
My goal for this project was to acquire the Top 10 Favorite Movies lists from as many people as possible. I used this raw data to create a Top 100 “Best” Movies list based solely on the opinions of people, not based on what critics think.

HOW THE POINT SYSTEM WORKS: Each person was asked to provide their Top 10 Favorite Movies, and that list was ranked accordingly. Their #1 movie earned 10 points, #2 movie earned 9, #3 movie earned 8, etc. I tallied all the points and movies in a Microsoft Excel sheet.
DISCOVERIES:
In this study I discovered that the movie categories Action/Adventure (i.e., The Lord Of The Rings, Die Hard, Star Wars, etc.) and Romance/Drama (i.e. Gone With The Wind, Dirty Dancing, Titanic) were the most favorite genres among both Males and Females. Superhero movies such as Guardians Of The Galaxy and Captain America: Civil War were also popular, as well as War films like Saving Private Ryan and The Green Mile. All age groups seemed to love Disney/Pixar animated films such as The Lion King and Toy Story. Comedies and Horror movies did not show up as much I expected although Halloween and Silence Of The Lambs were popular.
WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:
For the most part it seems the Critics and Casual Viewers both tend to agree on what movies are “good”. Only 12% of films in the Top 100 got a “Rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes (less than 60% on their ranking system). This means that 88% of the movies on this list are considered “good” by the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, although only 13 films on this Top 100 list are featured on Rotten Tomatoes’ Top 100 Best Movie List.
