1 The World of Life Science
Chapter 1B Why Take a Christian Approach?

2 Worldview the overall perspective from which a person sees and interprets the world

3 worldview the perspective from which a person interprets all evidence in life (how you view every aspect in your life)

4 How worldviews help us? Our worldview shapes how we thing about all of life. Where did the world come from? Are humans more important than animals? How do I tell the difference between right and wrong? What happens to me when I die?

5 Worldviews and evidence
Worldviews are very powerful because they give us a perspective on life. Evolutionists point to fossils as evidence of evolution Creationist look at fossils and say they are evidence of creation Big difference in these views. Not because of the evidence, but in their worldviews.

6 Two types of worldviews
1. Christian worldview Non-Christian worldview

7 Facing the challenge A worldview must be based on truth.
A biblical worldview is based on the truth of God revealed in the Bible.

8 Facing the challenge A nonbiblical worldview is holding to something they believe is more reliable that the Bible. Could be: church traditions, scientific theories, philosophies, or even humans themselves

11 The Worldview of Naturalism
The worldview that nature is the ultimate reality and that there is no supernatural force that started or sustains nature.

12 The Worldview of Naturalism
Where did the world come from? The universe has always existed. The present condition of the universe is the result of natural processes that have gone on forever.

13 The Worldview of Naturalism
What’s Wrong with the World? There is no reason or justice in what happens. There is no purpose or design. It is simply a matter of blind chance. Right and wrong is by what the majority of the people want.

14 The Worldview of Naturalism
What Should be Done? Use science to rid the world of ignorance. Use science to help people. Focus on life now, since there is no life after death.

15 The Biblical Worldview
Naturalism begins with nature. Christianity begins with God and accepts the Bible as His Word.

16 The Biblical Worldview
Where did the world come from? God made all things. Man was created in God’s image. Creation Mandate

17 The Biblical Worldview
Creation Mandate The charge that God gave to man in Genesis 1:28 to exercise dominion, or stewardship, over the earth.

18 The Biblical Worldview
What’s Wrong with the World? The world is under God’s curse because of sin. The Fall Disease and death

19 The Biblical Worldview
What should be done? Salvation Science helps redeemed people see the glory of God. Spread the Gospel Science can play a role in spreading the good news.

20 The Biblical Worldview
What should be done? Helping others Science, especially life science, is a powerful tool for helping others and exercising dominion over the earth. Loving others

21 Making Sense of the World
Humans are precious. Love is real. Good and evil exist. The biblical worldview is the one that makes sense of reality.

22 worldview We can study nature to know more about God’s marvelous character. “The heavens are telling the glory of God; they are a marvelous display of his craftsmanship. Day and night they keep on telling about God. Without a sound or word, silent in the skies, their message reaches out to all the world.” Psalms 19:1-3 (TLB)

23 Our Main Focus Our main focus of learning about nature should not be to improve the lives of humans, but instead it should be to love God through the study of nature.
