Limited Governmental Power Citizens have rights
Democracy: A system of government in which power is vested in the people, who rule either directly or through freely elected representatives. Direct democracy: is a form of democracy in which people decide (e.g. vote on, form consensus on) policy initiatives directly.

Representative Democracy (Republic) – Where citizens elect representatives to make decisions for them. Example: USA

Constitutional Monarchy: monarch (king or queen) is a figurehead. The government is actually run by elected officials There are many in the world, especially Europe.

Absolute Monarchy: king or queen who has absolute power. Power is passed along through the family There are several in the world, especially in the Middle East

Totalitarian : Rule by a single political party. May use force to keep control. There are several in the world

Theocracy: Rules claim to be governing on behalf of a set of religious ideas, or as a direct agent of a god. Very restrictive--use force to keep control.
