Vocabulary Exponent - a quantity representing the power to which a given number or expression is to be raised, usually expressed as a raised symbol beside the number or expression. The exponent of a number says how many times to use that number in a multiplication. It is written as a small number to the right and above the base number. Base - The number that is going to be raised to a power, the number which will be multiplied according to the exponent. Power – exponent

Understand scientific notation and choose units of appropriate size for measurements of very large or very small quantities (e.g. use millimeters per year for seafloor spreading). Interpret scientific notation that has been generated by technology (e.g. calculators).
