13 Description of foreign migration in the Slovak Republic
Accession to the European Union constituted an unprecedented developmental impulse. Since the end of 2004 until the end of 2010, there was an increase in foreign nationals legally residing in the Slovak Republic to (i.e. 3 times increased). Although, few years ago such percentage was barely thinkable, in international benchmarking it is still a very small number – within the EU 27 lower shares of foreign nationals (in 2010) had only Bulgaria, Romania, Lithuania and Poland.

17 Foreign nationals on the labour market of the Slovak Republic on 31
Foreign nationals on the labour market of the Slovak Republic on 31. December 2010 The labour migrants in the Slovak Republic in the analysed period were characterised by a high level of completed education. There was only a minimal share of them with basic education, on the other side, there was a high portion of migrants with a university degree. In 2004, the share of employed foreign nationals with a university degree was more than 50 % but, until 2010, it gradually decreased in favour of the persons with secondary education to 34.1 %.

18 Prognosis of the development in the area of foreign migration in the Slovak Republic
there will be an moderate increase in population of the Slovak Republic (Chart 10) the year 2020 will be the point of inflection of the prevailing trend after this year, there will be a negative development marked by a rapid decrease of population of the Slovak Republic, which will probably reach million inhabitants in 2050 other forecasts, analyses and studies suggest that even more serious consequences will be caused by structural and qualitative changes in Slovak population. out of these changes, the most visible will be ageing of population (mostly between 2025 a 2050)

19 there will be two mechanisms of ageing: “from below“ and “from above”, i.e. by decreasing birth-rate and natural growth or by increasing median life expectancy at birth, average age and others this will cause a decrease in the number of children and a share of persons in reproductive / productive age, on the other side, there will be a dramatic increase of pensioners; the ageing index will be extremely high. according to UN, it is expected that Slovak Republic will have one of the oldest population in the world (in 2050 it will occupy the 11th place)
