9/27 – 10/6 -1st meeting with supervisor –Proposal for Action
10/9 & 10/10 - Check #1 - Proposal for Action (Science)
October - Plan
Students that need to modify their Proposal for Action will be notified
10/ /25 - Students develop plan to execute project/2nd meeting with supervisor (If needed, assign supplemental supervisor)
Go through the dates with the students and have them attach this timeline to the front inside cover of their process journal (or put their name on it and hold on to it until they do!)
Make sure to point out the graded core assignments
There are 3 required meetings with supervisors
The Proposal for Action is a mandatory document and they will get a template for it on September 6th – it is exactly what it sounds like, their outline of their proposed community service project

They will do the bulk of the work in October and November to complete the project and prepare for their presentation
We will have a half day of ATL for the actual presentations and one night for parents to come see all their hard work
There will be a more detailed timeline/checklist provided for each month at the beginning of the month, starting in September 

4. Process Journal
The process journal is a generic term used to refer to the record of progress maintained by the student throughout the process.
It can be written, visual, audio or a combination of these, and may include both paper and electronic formats.
In your presentations you will feature 10 individual extracts or 15 group extracts that show evidence of how they addressed each objective.
The process journal is the journal that students already have for your ATL class (or will have).
They will be allowed to have journal entries that are visual or audio (these would be awesome additions to a presentation) if they want, but they should have some written entries as well.
They will have to pick their 10 best extracts for the presentation if they work individually and their 15 combined best if they work in a group.
So even if they work as a group they will need to have documented individual process journals for a grade in Language and Literature.
The extracts are how they show they investigated, planned, took action, and reflected.

The process journal is not:
used throughout the project to document its development
an evolving record of intents, processes, accomplishments
a place to record initial thoughts and developments, brainstorming, possible lines of inquiry and further questions raised
a place for recording interactions with sources, for example teachers, supervisors, external contributors
a place to record selected, annotated and/or edited research and to maintain a bibliography
a place for storing useful information, for example quotations, pictures, ideas, photographs
a means of exploring ideas and solutions
a place for evaluating work completed
a place for reflecting on learning
devised by the student in a format that suits his or her needs
a record of reflections and formative feedback received.
used on a daily basis (unless this is useful for the student)
written up after the process has been completed
additional work on top of the project; it is part of and supports the project
a diary with detailed writing about what was done
a static document with only one format.
This is the chart provided by IB programme that actually states the purpose of the process journal.
This will be on another hand-out for them, so you can just brief pick out some examples and go over what it is “not” supposed to be.
