What is the problem we are trying to solve?

5 If I were given one hour to save the planet, I would spend 59 minutes defining the problem and one minute resolving it,” Albert Einstein As Einstein said if given a hour to save the planet I would take 59 minutes of that hour defining the problem. I believe we do not take anywhere near enough time defining the problem and instead are in a rush to find solutions.

11 What is the ‘extra’ in Extra Care?
A housing solution – a home for as long as you want Well-located and part of the wider community On-site flexible care that adapts to a resident’s changing needs On-site facilities, primarily a restaurant to help create that self-supporting community A focus on helping people do for themselves I think we do need to be clear what is the ‘extra’ and to be honest I think there is plenty of research out there for us to sort of ‘trademark’ extra care and be clear on its features to make sure it is the real McCoy. These five features I believe summarise the extra – based on our experience and largely the lots of research from Housing LIN and different counties across the UK who have explored what makes extra care successful. Often the debate is over the on-site facilities. These certainly do add to the cost of build and cost for residents through their service charges. We need to be sure these contribute sufficiently to the ‘extra’ in extra care or understand how what other ways we can create the same impact through some other means
