How to enter and leave Ward School safely

2. Here are some signs in front of our school building.
What are they telling us?

6. The Blue Zone is…
A moving lane where there is only room for five cars
For pick up of students who are already waiting on the curb that is painted blue
For students to enter the car from the curb only
For students who can get into (or out of) the car quickly from the curb and without help from an adult
A pick-up spot if the driver does not have to get out of the car.

7. The Blue Zone is NOT…
A place for discussions about after school plans while a car is waiting in the Blue Zone
A place where cars should stop for more than a minute
A place for cars to park and wait for students
A place to rearrange material so lots of children will fit or load a car with a bike, cartons…

11. The Bus Stop is… For busses to pick up or drop off students
Not a place for cars to stop

12. Safety quiz
The Blue Zone is a great place for making play dates with my friends while a car is waiting in the Blue Zone.
If there are no empty parking spaces in the Blue Zone, it is ok to walk between two cars to get picked up.
It’s ok to be picked up in a car in the bus zone if there are no busses waiting there.
You should stand on the blue painted curb to wait for your ride.

13. If there is a car seat in the back seat of the car on the sidewalk side, it’s ok to go around carefully to the other side of the car to get in.
Before I get into the car, it’s fine to open the trunk and put my backpack and jacket there.
If I am being picked up in the Blue Zone, I should wait at the blue curb for my ride.
