I Love the Lord Psalm 116

I Love the Lord (1-11) “I Love the LORD” – adoration for Him 1 John 4:19, Matt. 22:37-39, 1 John 5:2-3 He has inclined His ear to me – He answers prayers 1 John 5:14-15, 3:21-22

I Love the Lord (1-11) “I will call upon Him as long as I live” (2) “Death surrounded me” (3) “Then I called upon the name of the Lord” (4) – he turned to God, when all else failed

I Love the Lord (1-11) Our God is gracious, righteous and merciful (5)
“He preserves the simple, He saved me” (6) – no partiality (Gal. 3:26-28, Acts 10:34, …) His message appeals to all mankind – Mark 12:37 – “the common people heard Him gladly”, 1 Cor. 1:18-25, 26-29 Humble gratitude!

I Love the Lord (1-11) “Return to your rest, O my soul” (7) Because of Him, I can “breathe a sigh of relief” Delivered from death, walking in the land of the living (8-9) A declaration that while he is alive, he will “walk before the LORD”

I Love the Lord (1-11) “I believed, therefore I spoke” In haste, he said, “All men are liars” (10-11) Possibly - In affliction the psalmist denied what he was about to face, what man said Vs. 10 Quoted by Paul in 2 Cor. 4:13 (7-15) – faith in the resurrection Will you believe God? Rom. 3:4 Watch what you say! James 3:2

What shall I render (12-19) In gratitude, the psalmist determines to serve Him “What shall I render to the Lord For all His benefits toward me?” (12) Considering how we are blessed, how can we possibly repay Him? We can’t! But do we resolve to give Him what we can?

What shall I render (12-19) “I will take up the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord” (13) He will declare Him and trust in Him! Calling on the name of the Lord today means obeying Him – Acts 22:16

What shall I render (12-19) “I will pay my vows to the Lord” in the presence of all His people (14, 18) Vows are solemn promises! We need to be careful in making vows Matt. 5:33-37, James 5:12 Ecclesiastes 5:1-7

What shall I render (12-19) “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints (15) God values man and the soul He sent Jesus to die John 3:16, Rom. 5:6-8; His followers – Rev. 14:13, 1 Pet. 5:5-7

What shall I render (12-19) “Truly I am your servant” (16) Are we? Are we TRULY His servants? Romans 6:15-19, 1 Peter 4:2

Heb. 13:15 What shall I render (12-19)
“I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the Lord” (17) Heb. 13:15

What shall I render (12-19) “I will pay my vows to the Lord now in the presence of all His people, in the courts of the Lord’s house, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem” (18-19) One way we serve Him is to worship Him as He commands Heb. 10:25, etc.

What shall I render (12-19) “Hallelujah” (19) Thought: Second chances:
When life is over there are no more chances (Heb. 9:27). But now we have a chance. Do not squander your opportunities. Also, when we are delivered (forgiven) is our gratitude enduring? (Matt. 13:5, 20)

Since He has forgiven our sins, how do we respond to Him?
