2. Important points
YII Handbook Everything from today is covered in the MATH8001 student handbook. Don’t leave the handbook at home. Forms A Health & Safety agreement must be completed before a placement can commence. There are 3 forms in Section 3 of the handbook that must be completed at the start of your placement.

3. Important points
We must be able to contact you during your placement year. This means that you should be checking your University regularly or you should forward your to another inbox that you will be checking.

5. Academic supervisor
Everyone will be allocated an academic supervisor who will be their main point of contact throughout the placement year. It will probably not be your personal tutor. They will arrange a visit sometime in April or May next year.

6. Assessment MATH8001 is an 120 credit module that is passed or failed.
Your placement year is assessed through
a report,
a presentation,
your placement profile,
your academic supervisor’s visit.

7. Assessment – report
The word report will be due in at the end of October when you come back to the University. The report should give a comprehensive account of your placement year: from how you got your placement, to what you got from your placement. Part of the report should focus on a substantial project you have undertaken.

8. Assessment – presentation
You will be required to give a 15-minute presentation on your placement year. Think of it as a marketing tool to advertise the year-in-industry and your particular employer. The best presentations will be selected for Oktoberfest 2017.

9. Assessment – more forms
During your placement, you need to complete the “placement profile” forms that are included as part of the handbook. You are asked to review progress at several points. Your industrial supervisor needs to complete some reviews too. These forms will be appended to your report and will form part of your overall assessment.

10. Finances
Remember that you retain your student status. Council tax – you might need a letter to support exemption. Travel – some cities have reductions on public transport, – in London, you can get a reduced-fee.

A year is not a long time… Consider accommodation for your final year(s). Think about how you are going to cope with lectures.

14. Final slide
No forms = No transfer to the industrial placement programme. Remember that you need to have passed 100 credits in your second year.
