CMIP5 Questionnaire Roadmap – beta
Summary From the summary page you can add and edit new platform, model and grid descriptions and also navigate to the different elements of the questionnaire Yellow tab text indicates that this element still needs to be created on the summary page. Only then can the tab be used for navigation Platform 1st Inputs 4th Grids 2nd Simulations 5th Model 3rd Screenshot of an institutes Summary (or hub) page

Platform (Hardware) Roadmap – beta
1 Use the Platform section to describe the hardware. 0th 1st Summary Platform
5
Platform Hardware Roadmap – beta
Summary Platform The Platform is a description of the hardware. Either “Add a new Platform” or “Edit” an existing platform description. The Platform can then be associated with Model Software and Simulations. Screenshot of the Platform page Provide a machine name and use the Parties tab to enter information to select for contact information Describe Hardware Save and return to the summary page

Describe a grid component
Grids Roadmap – beta Start Here! The “Add a new grid” function creates a new Grid template for users to rename and specify Add new Grid Summary Grid Template dup Edit Copy Once a grid description has been created users can Edit it at any time. It is also possible to Copy the grid description and use it as a starting point for describing other similar grids. Grid hierarchies will be implemented after the beta release. Associate the grid with model and model components Give the grid a name and provide contact information Save before describing the horizontal & vertical grid components Save Use the tree navigator to access the horizontal and vertical grid components Describe a grid component

Model (Software) Roadmap – beta
Start Here! The “Add a new model” function creates a new GCM template for users to rename and specify Add new Model Summary GCM Template dup Edit Copy Save Once a model description has been created users can Edit it at any time. It is also possible to Copy the model description and use it as a starting point for describing other similar models. Give the model a name and provide contact information Describe the software component Describe the Model Genealogy Use the tree navigator to access a software component Select a Grid Save before describing the model software

Model Roadmap – beta Summary Model
The “Add a new model” function creates a new GCM template for users to rename and specify Model The name of the model/software component being edited Give the model a name and provide contact information Describe the Model Genealogy Select a grid. The grid information can be copied to sub-components Use the tree navigator to access software components Save before describing the model software

Enter a name and a description for an input
Inputs Roadmap – beta Navigate to the component that requires some kind of input Model Component Inputs Needed References “Inputs Needed” and “References” buttons are in the Left Hand frame Enter a name and a description for an input Declare the type of input Initial Condition Boundary Condition Ancillary Data Enter Additional References Select References from the list Input requirements and references appear at the bottom of the component page After saving it is possible to enter additional inputs Save
15
Inputs Roadmap – beta How to declare input data files
The files tab will take you to a page that lists all input files. CMIP5 emissions data files have been pre-loaded into the questionnaire. Once input files have been associated with experiments you will be able to filter this list by experiment. It is also possible to describe new input data files Screenshot of the Files page
16
Enter information about the input data file
Inputs Roadmap – beta After saving it is possible to enter information about additional variables How to declare input data files continued... Files Tab Enter information about the input data file Enter information about a variable Save CF standard names have been pre-loaded and can be selected from dynamically driven drop-down lists Input files can be associated with experiments Scroll bar and arrow keys can be used to cycle through items on the drop down list Screenshot of the Files page
17
Inputs Roadmap – beta How to resolve inputs – default method
The “Resolve Inputs” button is in the Left Hand frame of the model pages How to resolve inputs – default method Which external or internal information is bound to the input requirements? Within each Binding for Boundary Condition entry users are asked to enter information about the nature and frequency of the input technique and associate the input either with files or other model components. Bindings for Initial conditions bind the input to between one and many variables Bindings for Ancillary Files bind the input to a single file After saving, further rows will appear for additional entries. Conformance Roadmap – beta1
Click on the experiment name to see the list of experiment requirements. How are these requirements met by your simulation? The following pages guide you through the process of describing how your simulation conformed to these requirements. Through input data files and modification of model code.
21
Look at the experiment requirements
Conformance Roadmap – beta1 Go to the model component where the experiment requirements are implemented Create “hooks” for: Initial conditions Boundary conditions Ancillary files Use the files tab to enter links to or descriptions of the data used by “input requirements” Look at the experiment requirements Use the buttons in the Left Hand frame of the simulation page to... Simulation Link Input Requirements with Input Data. (Overrides the default input resolutions) Resolve Inputs Model Modifications Describe model modifications to parameters and/or code Associate Resolved Inputs and Model Modifications with Experiment Requirements Conformance
22
Conformance Roadmap – beta1
1 Resolve Inputs. Which external or internal information is bound to the input requirements? There is one "coupling" entry for each input requirement declared in the model component descriptions. Within each Boundary Condition Coupling entry there are four subsections - It is likely that users will only fill out section (2) or section (3) for any one coupling. Initial condition Couplings bind the input to between one and many variables Ancillary File Couplings bind the input to a single file After saving, further rows will appear for additinoal entries
23
Conformance Roadmap – beta1
2 Model Modification. Select modifications related to this experiment Describe more modifications Associate the new modification with a component

Conformance Roadmap – beta1
3 Conformance. How are the experiment requirements satisfied by the simulation? Only one requirement is shown here, there are more in the questionnaire! For each Experiment Requirement Select Input Bindings (Input Resolutions) Select Conformance Method Select model modifications Save before navigating away
