My section is about how to help a suicidal person and the ways of doing so. It shows you what to do and what not to do, concerning a suicidal person. It also tells you how to handle a situation.

4. THE DO‘S :
Trust your feelings if you believe the person may be suicidal
Take seriously a suicidal person’s threats
Tell the suicidal person how concerned you are and how much you care about them
Listen carefully to the suicidal person
Talk calmly with the suicidal person
Find professional help for the suicidal person
Stay with the suicidal person until help arrives

5. THE DON‘TS :
Do NOT dare the suicidal person to go ahead & make the suicide attempt
Do NOT judge the suicidal person
Do NOT analyze the suicidal’s motives
Do NOT argue or try to convince the suicidal person of reasons why he/she should not attempt suicide
Do NOT keep the suicidal person’s self destructive thoughts a secret

6. S T O R Y .
Jane came over to my house a few months ago. She told me she had a secret that I couldn’t tell anyone. She told me she was thinking of committing suicide, and that this wouldn’t be her first attempt. As a friend, I made sure to tell her that I cared about her and I listened to what she had to say. I asked her to spend the night, so she wouldn’t be alone.

The next day, I told my mom about her secret and we got her help. Now, she’s doing better and has not thought those thoughts in a while.

You can always save a suicidal person’s life by just listening to them and being a friend.
