2. Why have a plan?
Stories are about things moving and happening, and more importantly, they are about entertaining a reader. The 6 part story plan is meant to hook the reader and keep their attention throughout the story. Also, it helps the writer provide the necessary information for the reader to understand what’s going on.

3. The 6 Parts
Opening – This is where you grab the readers attention, either through action or through an interesting idea.
Example: (Spiderman) We meet Peter Parker and his family and see that he is just a normal dorky kid, and that he is very close to his aunt and uncle.

Setting – This is where you tell the reader where the story takes place and when. This part establishes a place and time that the reader can imagine.
Example: We see Peter on the field trip to the laboratory. Here we learn that he is a photographer, that he’s in high school, that he is not popular, and that he’s in love with Mary Jane Watson

Fiction Trigger – This is an event that sets the real story in motion. It’s like the trigger of a gun; when you pull it, everything starts with a bang.
Example: Peter gets bitten by the super spider. We don’t know what’s going to happen, but we suspect that something crazy is about to start.

Keeping up the momentum (development) – This is where the real story unfolds and the plot points start to happen. Slowly the pieces of the story start to become clear and the conflict builds. This builds slowly until you reach the climax.
Example: Peter discovers his new powers, but because of lack of social concern, causes his uncles murder; then he becomes Spiderman. Norman Osborne gets super strength and swears revenge on his company and Spiderman, and becomes Green Goblin. Meanwhile, Spidey starts fighting crime and becoming unpopular because of Jonah Jameson. Then Gobey kidnaps Mary Jane Watson to lure Spiderman.

Climax – This is the very highest point of the action in the story, where the conflict is fought out. If it’s a love story, this is where the love is made or broken. If its an adventure, then it’s usually a fight.
Example: Spiderman fights Green Goblin to save Mary Jane. Then she gets free and Spidey and Gobey fight to the death. Spiderman wins.

Satisfying Conclusion (Resolution) – This is where all the conflict in the story is worked out and a resolution of some sort is reached. The conclusion should answer any major questions and leave the reader with clarity and satisfaction.
Example: Peter decides that he must face the responsibility that comes with his new powers, and decides to be Spiderman. But, he doesn’t want to endanger the ones he loves and so doesn’t tell Mary Jane that he is Spiderman.
