Mr. Sanchez is a loyal customer of the jewelry store.
He comes once a week to look over the newest selection of diamonds and other jewels. His favorites have always been diamonds.
He has been acting so strange lately. The store workers have even found him talking to the Lighthouse Diamond when he thought no one was watching or listening. They say he was even telling the stone that "...you will soon be mine!"
He is a very clean, well-dressed person. He is careful about his cleanliness - probably due to his allergies to many things; cats, dust, cement, any kind of flowers (especially roses!), and sugar. 7

Susie comes by the store to fantasize about what her boyfriend will buy her. (The problem is that her boyfriend is very cheap and the only thing he has bought her is a bag of popcorn at the movies).
She has been looking over the Lighthouse Diamond every day for over two weeks. The past few days she had been acting odd. Instead of her usual happy self - talking a mile a minute, Susie had been very nervous and quiet.
Susie loves sweets and junk food, coming into the store with a wad of gum or some kind of candy in her mouth.
When she was small, she had a very bad reaction to baking soda. It almost killed her. Her mother has learned to never have baking soda in the house. Susie will turn bight red and blow up just like a balloon just by touching the stuff! 9

10. Suspect #3: Mr. Sub Zero (aka Homer Simpson)10

"Mr. Zero” has been coming in to the store to buy his supply of diamonds for the past few years.
He says that diamonds are the source of his powers (but, we haven't seen any powers yet!). He goes through a few diamonds each month. Some months are slower for him and he doesn't need as many diamonds.
Lately, he has been talking about a big battle and he needs something special, like the Lighthouse Diamond, to give him extra super powers! He has been drooling over the Lighthouse Diamond. Something else that few people know is that Sub Zero is deathly afraid of salt! You know how slugs shrivel up when you put salt on them? (Which is VERY mean!); well, he's afraid someone will salt him!
He also won't go near baking soda, antiperspirant or soap! 11

12. Testing the Substances
The white powders all appear to be similar.
You will need to perform tests on each different substance to determine the nature of each.
IODINE = Indicator for Sugars and Starches (turns from amber to black in presence of sugar)
VINEGAR = Causes a bubbling Reaction with different basic substances, such as Baking Soda
HEAT = Causes some substances (sugar) to melt, other substances (plaster of paris) to turn gray
