introduction She was a British narrator, philosopher and biographer. She was recognized by his famous novel “Frankenstein”. Mary Shelley edited and promoted the work of his husband, a romantic poet and philosopher named Percy Shelley. Her father was the philosopher politic William Godwin and her mother, the feminist philosopher Mary Wollstonecraft.

First years Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin was born in Somers Town, London, in Her mother died of an infection after giving birth. Then she and her sister were looked after by their father. When Mary was three years old, Godwin got married whit her neighbor, Mary Jane Clairmont. She had two children, Charles and Claire

His work “Frankenstein” was written when Mary Shelley was only nineteen. On the night of June 16th, in 1816, he met Lord Byron and other people in a villa near of Geneva. Enclosed in the house by a storm, they read terror books. Then Mary imagined Frankenstein inspired by a nightmare she had at eighteen years of age. He wrote the novel after a bet with Byron.

The story of Frankenstein, student of the occult and his superhuman creature created from human corpses, has been taken to the theater and to the cinema on several occasions.

Romantic beyond romance
In the summer of 1824, Mary Shelley moved to Kentish Town in North of London, to be near of Jane Williams. She seemed to be in love with Jane. At that time, Payne fell in love with her in 1826 and proposed marriage. She rejected him, telling him that after getting married to a genius, he could only marry another. In 1828, he met and had a romantic relationship with the French writer Prosper Mérimée.

Last years and death The last years of Mary Shelley were plagued with disease. From 1839, she began to suffer headaches and attacks of paralysis in different parts of the body, which often prevented him to read or to write. On February 1st, in 1851, at Chester Square, he died, at age fifty- three, his doctor suspected it was a brain tumor.

curiosities Mary was very feminist, and this is demonstrated by several books and essays by her. Percy died before the age of 30 in a storm while sailing. His body was cremated but before his heart was removed. Mary had it on her desk.
