3 Abstract... This will be an introduction to what mobile learning can give back to eLearning, which eLearning took away from the distance learner when the learning went from D to E. I will show what works well on a mobile device and what the challenges are. I will also comment on the advantages of mLearning compared to eLearning, but also the other way around. 9 The mobile learning projects
From eLearning to mLearning ( ) mLearning the next generation of learning ( ) Incorporating mobile learning into mainstream education ( ) The role of mobile learning in European education ( ) From eLearning to mLearning This project sets in place the first stage in the creation of a global provision of training on the wireless internet. It sets in place the first building block for the next generation of learning: the move from distance learning (d-Learning) and electronic learning (e-Learning) to mobile learning (m-Learning). mLearning the next generation of learning E-learning is the state of the art for education and training but this project asks what is the next generation? The future is wireless. This project proposes that the next generation is the provision of education and training on wireless devices: Personal Digital Devices (PDAs), Mobile Phones and Smartphones. The project set out to provide systems and courses for mobile learning and to trial them with real students. Incorporating mobile learning into mainstram education and training The aim of the project is to develop mobile learning course content and services that will enter into the mainstream and take mobile learning from a project-based structure and into mainstream education and training. Project period is The Role of Mobile Learning in European Education The objective of the project is to contribute to bringing the mobile devices into European education and training. For this reason the first target group is the Commission decision makers and dicision makers in the member states. Further target groups are students and institutions in the partner countries, and eventually in all Europe. The main challenge is that students use their mobile phones constantly and in all sorts of activities but yet not in the education. The main activities, which will result in the products of the project, are: development of a policy document on the role of mobile learning, and overview of the role of mobile learning in the member states, listing of achievements of mobile learning, pedagogical aspects of mobile learning and adapting instructor led training and e-learning materials to mobile learning, the development, adaptation, teaching and evaluation of mobile learning courseware for real students.
