6. Keys to Success Synchronization Persistence Communication
Perhaps this falls into the “profound expression of the obvious” category but some issues are simply worth emphasizing in order to set the foundation for this effort.
Synchronization is critical to success, especially collaborating with DAASC regarding testing schedules. Not unlike yourselves, DAASC routinely has 100 projects and time and resources to do far less. Failure to adequately plan for scheduling can cause the program to quickly go off track –more on this when we speak to the Program Management Plan (PMP)
Persistence - We are all keenly aware that there are long lists of priorities within each of our domains but successful DLMS conversion will take a persistent effort to make sure all the bases are covered. The program simply doesn’t lend itself to picking it up on Monday morning and putting it aside till Friday. We are most fortunate to have with us today two very good examples of DLMS migration effort -- a previous conversion effort on a grand scale (DSS) and the opportunity to discuss with a representative from Army’s Logistics Modernization Program on how they’re making DLMS migration happen.
Communication is a paramount consideration. The fundamental purpose of this kickoff session is to acquaint you with the general process, take advantage of the fact that multiple systems are being simultaneously migrated and share experiences both positive and negative – essentially a “dynamic” lesson learned environment vice waiting till its all over before sharing experiences. DLMSO and USTRANSCOM and BTA are the lead proponents for Supply and Transportation based systems be migrated. It is critical that we be apprised of progress, and made aware of problems as they emerge. We may well have the expertise to solve the problem or know who can.
