Facts on Notre Dame Paris, capital of France is located in northern France on both banks of the Seine River Notre Dame can be found on a island- the Ile de la cite in Paris. Probably Notre Dame is the most famous cathedral in the world. The distance to all towns is measured by Notre Dame (in Paris) It was started being in 1163 but has been changed since then. The pope of Alexander was the third person who placed the first foundation.

FACTS ON NOTRE DAME Notre Dame in French means Our Lady.
During the French Revolution the cathedral was damaged. The cathedral was finished in1345. There is no official religion in France most people say they are Roman Catholic. There are five bells at Notre Dame. The great bell Emmanuel weighs over 13 tons. Notre Dame is 21 metres high.

FACTS ON NOTRE DAME During the commune of 1871 the cathedral was nearly burnt. Notre Dame survived the Commune essentially unscathed. During the 19th century the cathedral was in a state of disrepair. The pope of Alexander the 3 was the person who placed the first foundation stone in the year 1163. Mary the first of Scotland was crowned in Notre Dame. The Celts and the Romans had sacred gowned here. Many story books include Notre Dame, including the hunch back of Notre Dame written by Victor Hugo.

FACTS ON NOTRE DAME Notre Dame has rose windows dating from 1250-1260.
This boat shaped island was inhabited by a Celtic tribe. They crowned the kings and Emperors and blessed the royal knights. It stands on the site of Roman temple. There are387 steps up the North tower.

The cathedral appears in the animated film Ratatouille. The cathedral is shown in the film Van Helsing. The cathedral is shown in the 1963 film ‘Charade’ A nice way to arrive is by boat.
