2 Assessment Assessment is Carried out on a daily basis.
This can be through the use of observation, marking a child’s work, testing, progress against the learning objective etc. All staff are involved in this process. Formal assessment takes place at key points throughout the year. This assessment feeds into lesson content and specific targets for a child to meet.

3 Expected achievement Whole school works towards end of a Key Stage assessment points. Early Years, Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2. Each year group becomes a building block to end of Key Stage assessment point. Assessments are carried out throughout year and passed onto next teacher. End of Key Stage assessments are submitted based on achieving every statement. Working Towards, Expected Level, Working at a Greater Depth in Reading, Writing, SPaG, Maths and science.

4 Early Years Foundation stage
Early Years Profile- End of Year Assessment. Children assessed 17 Early Learning Goals within 7 Learning areas: PSED Communication & Language Physical Literacy Mathematics Understanding the world Expressive arts & Design 3 Levels to each Early Learning Goal: Emerging, Expected or Exceeding. The Learning Goals are ‘Best Fit’. The child has to meet most of these statements to be considered at an ‘Expected’ level. Children who achieve Expected or Exceeding in all of the first 5 Learning areas (PSED, Communication & Language, Physical, Literacy & Mathematics) are considered to have achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’.

5 Example of Early Years assessment
Early Learning Goal 11: Numbers - End of Year Expectation Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing Early Learning Goal 10: Writing - End of Year Expectation pupils use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

6 Interim framework End Of ks1 and ks2 assessment points.
Used in lead up to end of assessment point in all year groups to ensure children are prepared. Interim for second year In a row. Children have to achieve every statement. Tests completed in may – marked internally for ks1 and externally for ks2 Writing is marked internally for ks2.

10 Phonics check Completed june.
Assessment of children’s phonic, decoding and blending knowledge. The phonics screening check contains 40 words divided into two sections of 20 words. Both sections contain a mixture of real words and pseudo-words. Section 1 Page 1 Four pseudo-words, Page 2 Four pseudo-words, Page 3 Four pseudo-words, Page 4 Four real words, Page 5 Four real words Section 2 Page 6 Four pseudo-words, Page 7 Four pseudo-words, Page 8 Four real words, Page 9 Four real words, Page 10 Four real words All pseudo-words in the check are accompanied by a picture of an imaginary creature. This provides a context for the child (naming the type of imaginary creature) to ensure that they are not trying to match the pseudo-word to a word in their vocabulary.

12 Classroom monitor Every year group is formally assessed – not just the years where the data is reported. Ardley hill uses a system called classroom monitor. We moderate with other local schools who also use this system. Similar to the interim framework – there are statements that the children need to meet. These are broken into beginning, developing, secure and exceeding. The stage a child is working on is the year group they are in. Sometimes children work out of stage.

14 assessments Assessment is completed half termly.
After this pupil progress meetings are held to discuss how individual pupils are progressing against their targets. Target sheets are given to parents at parents evening and are available for the children in the classroom. Final data is sent to the local authority in june for EYFS, year 1 phonics, Year 2 and year 6. Final assessments are added onto reports which are given to parents at the end of the summer term.
