2 The Bagpipes Early bagpipes were made out of animal skin with hollow leg bones of small animals. Into the holes they drilled small holes to produce different tones and pitches. The bag was made of sheep leather. It was made by treating it with honey or molasses.

3 The Pipes Made of hardwood Decorated with ivory and silver

4 The Drones Lay across the pipers shoulder and produce a constant humming sound. Every bagpipe is not the same in that there can be to different drones on some, the tenor and the bass.

5 The Chanter A pipe that has holes in it.
Allows a melody to be played with the fingers

6 The Blowpipe Has a one-way valve to keep the bag full
Then squeezed under the arm to force air out of the other four pipes

8 The Crumhorn The Crumhorn is a double reed wood instrument
It looks like the letter J. The crumhorn has 8 small holes in the side. The sound from it can go from a humming sound to a really high pitched buzzing sound.

9 The Crumhorn Gets its name from the German word meaning “curved hornand” Comes in alto, soprano, and bass version The reed does not go in your mouth…you just blow into it Maybe an ancestor to the saxophone

10 When did the Crumhorn occur?
The Crumhorn occurred in 1489. It was used in the 14 and 17 centuries. Peaked popularity in 1550 and 1650 Earliest and most common instrument in the reed cap family

Filled with steam to bend into a half circle Reed is made of cane Inserted into the top of the wooden pipe
